Department of School Education and Literacy (DoSEL) to Launch a Common Platform for Collaboration with Edtech Firms and Start-ups

Amid debates on regulating the edtech sector, which has faced criticism over trade malpractices, the Department of School Education and Literacy (DoSEL) is developing a “common platform” to collaborate with edtech firms and start-ups. The portal seeks to explore potential areas of collaboration, such as content creation in collaboration with NCERT. The decision was made when the government was announcing its 2020 National Education Policy (NEP) and developing the National Curriculum Framework (NCF) for K–12 instruction.

The DoSEL Secretary, Sanjay Kumar, believes it’s important to engage with these firms as many players exist in the field of school education. One area of cooperation could be content development in partnership with the NCERT, ensuring that the content is NEP-compliant while also benefiting from the exchange of ideas. The edtech sector gained prominence during the pandemic, and the common platform will provide a means for the DoSEL to interact with all edtech companies and start-ups engaged in the school education field.

In an effort to identify areas of cooperation with ed-tech companies and start-ups, the Department of School Education and Literacy (DoSEL) is formulating a “common platform” that includes content development in partnership with NCERT. The decision comes after concerns were raised about the need to regulate the education sector due to various trade malpractices involved in it.

As the government rolls out the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and reformulates the National Curriculum Framework (NCF) for school education, the engagement with ed-tech companies is important. The NCF will be framed for the foundational, preparatory, middle, and secondary levels. DoSEL has already issued the NCF for the foundational level and plans to release the NCF for the higher classes, teachers, and adult education in the coming month.
