Minister Dharmendra Pradhan announces action on India’s National Education Policy 2020, emphasizes skill development, and collaboration with Singapore during the workshop related to G20 Education Working Group
Mr. Dharmendra Pradhan, who is the Minister of Education, Entrepreneurship and Skill Development has declared that the National Education Policy, 2020 will be into action very soon. Mr. Pradhan asked the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), and University Grants Commission (UGC) to collaborate on building a framework for mapping future skills during his remarks at the NEP 2020’s integration of vocational education into the school curriculum beginning in grade six will aid in creating a workforce that is prepared for the future and capable of leading India to new heights. During a workshop on ‘Skill Architecture and Governance Model of India and Singapore’, Pradhan discussed India and Singapore collaboration to integrate skill development at the school level. He expressed interest in adopting Singapore’s successful skilling model and creating a holistic ecosystem suitable for India’s population. The workshop focused on three key aspects: creating a new curriculum for skill development, upskilling the higher education ecosystem, and establishing compulsory apprenticeship and lifelong skilling frameworks.
India has hosted two G20 Education Working Group meetings and is set to hold the fourth meeting in Pune in June. Through India’s G20 presidency, the government aims to facilitate the implementation of NEP 2020 and create a skilled workforce that can drive India’s growth and development.
The Minister of Education emphasised the need to share experiences and collaborate to create a new world where education remains a central point in addressing common challenges. He stated that India’s National Education Policy 2020 is the guiding light for promoting lifelong learning opportunities and achieving the shared vision of G20, based on the principles of access, equity, quality, affordability, and accountability. The minister highlighted India’s progress in building a more inclusive and resilient education and skilling ecosystem through the implementation of NEP 2020, focusing on early childhood care, differently-abled children, digital learning, flexible pathways, and skill integration. He also mentioned India’s initiatives in virtual schools, digital universities, and dedicated TV channels for education in multiple languages to make education more equitable and accessible. The minister emphasised India’s commitment to working with G20 member states to establish an education system that matches 21st-century skills and to strengthen education systems for rebuilding and recovering together. The bilateral meetings held during the G20 Education Ministers’ Meeting focused on deepening engagements in education and skill development.
