The All India Council for Technical Education( AICTE) has prompted top engineering and operation schools in India to offer BA, BSc or BCom courses alongside Bachelorette of Education( BEd) programs. This Integrated Teacher Education Program( ITEP), enforced in some institutions since 2021, would reduce the time demanded to secure a BEd degree from five to four times. Still, the offer has caused concern among some in academia, who feel that these sodalities warrant the coffers and structure to carry out such a program.
They argue that the suggestion goes against the policy of the National Council for Teacher Education( NCTE), which has only allowed state and central universities, institutions of public significance, and institutions of eminence to offer the integrated program. The NCTE had preliminarily notified the ITEP for Class XII pass- outs to pursue BA, BSc or BCom alongside BEd in an intertwined manner. The ITEP is a four- time course, unlike the five times taken for undergraduate and BEd courses being pursued independently.
Despite the enterprises raised by academia, the AICTE believes that the ITEP would profit scholars by saving time and helping meritorious scholars to enter the tutoring profession. The council has suggested that all multidisciplinary advanced education institutions, particularly those rated A and over by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council, initiate the ITEP in their institutions. Still, critics argue that allowing engineering institutions to run school teacher- training courses could lead to enterprises questioning the quality of the program, as these sodalities aren’t in the sphere of schoolteacher education.
The postgraduate and graduate technology programs offered by Indian institutions must be accredited by the All India Council for Technical Education( AICTE), a statutory agency. AICTE was innovated in 1945 with the intention of advancing the growth of India’s educational system, and it was granted statutory status in 1987. The University Subventions Commission( UGC) and AICTE are different organizations because AICTE only focuses on accrediting specialized education. The AICTE also has a significant impact on education, exploration, and development in a variety of fields, including business, wisdom, engineering, medical, hospitality, and more.
